I struggled to see anything at night and spent the days too tired and dehydrated to make much progress. Yet, to my horror, I had ventured deep into the jungle, losing sight of everything as the blackness enveloped me. I decided to stay put, hoping to be close enough to the river’s edge for my friends to easily find me. Slowly, I stumbled further into the dense forest of the Amazon, feeling completely disoriented. I felt terrified and decided to find my way back alone.
